The system of water tunnels (galleries) and the accompanying canal for diverting water from the Marcos and Cordero springs (Nacientes de Marcos y Cordero) in the Barranco del Agua valley were built in the first third of the 20th century.
To overcome the sheer vertical walls of the gorge, it was necessary to carve out by hand 13 narrow tunnel-galleries with a total length of several hundred meters. A service trail runs along the cut channel. Today this trail has become the famous tourist route PR-LP 6.
This describes a one-day circular route starting from the parking near Cascada de los Tilos, including a section with man-made galleries along the Nacientes de Marcos y Cordero channel. The route requires caution on some sections (the ascent trail to the channel), as well as waterproof clothing (raincoat, waterproof trousers) and a flashlight for moving through some galleries (the longest ones).
The route is notable for its exotic landscapes, breathtaking views, and a local history component (aqueduct and galleries). Along the route one can observe the gradual change of climatic zones (vertical climatic zonation) and a great diversity of local endemic flora.
